Toccoa will again celebrate National Train Day this weekend and this year's festivities will take place Saturday in downtown Toccoa at the historic train depot. Toccoa Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said everything will get started when the Amtrak Crescent arrives at its scheduled time of 6:15 a.m. “We hope a lot of citizens will be there to welcome the train,” said Crosby. “We will have some of our citizens get on the train and travel to Gainesville and hand out information about Toccoa.” The city will also give away a number of prizes after the train arrives. People can enter to win at WNEG Radio, the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce, or Ionosphere Travel. Crosby said a free train-oriented display will also be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Mitchell Allen Meeting Room at the train depot. “A 24-foot-long modular layout of a train will be there for people to see, as well as a Thomas the Train layout,” said Crosby. “There is something for the kids and the adults.” Other activities include inflatables for children, face painting, and entertainment. The Farmers' Market will set up in the train deport parking lot from 7 a.m. until noon plus Sage Market will join the festivities too. “Everything has to be homemade or home-grown,” said Crosby. “There will be homemade soap, honey, crocheted items. We are really excited.”
