Stephens County’s unemployment rate drops below 8 percent for the first time in more than four years. According to figures released last week by the Georgia Department of Labor, Stephens County had a preliminary unemployment rate of 7.7 percent in April which is down three-tenths of a percentage point from the revised March rate of 8 percent. The 7.7 percent figure is the lowest that Stephens County’s unemployment rate has been since December 2008.
