The 20th annual Stephens County Relay for Life takes place tonight in downtown Toccoa. Local Relay Co-Chair Jerry Snell said organizers are excited to bring the annual event into downtown Toccoa for the first time. “Other communities have done that and it is turned out really well,” said Snell. “We are going to try it and see how it goes. The program will start at 7 p.m. and we will close down at 11 p.m.” Relay will include many of the same activities as years past, with the Survivors’ Walk, Luminaries Ceremony, and of course, food and fun. Money raised through the Relay for Life goes to benefit the American Cancer Society. Snell said fundraising for this year’s Relay has gone very well. “The more you raise, the more the organization wants you to raise, but Stephens County people have always responded just unbelievably. Our state people are amazed at how much money we raise for the number of people, especially with the economy.” Snell invited everyone to come out and enjoy the night while supporting a great cause.
