Two Stephens County Indians signed Wednesday to play baseball next year at the collegiate level.  Austin Lord and Max Thomas both signed to play college baseball in a ceremony at the Media Center at Stephens County High School.  Lord signed with Mercer University and Thomas signed to play at Darton State College. Lord said multiple factors led him to Mercer starting next year.  “For one, it is a really prestigious school,” said Lord of the Division I school.  “They have a lot of majors that I can choose one.  It is the biggest school (to offer me) by far.” Lord said he will focus on pitching in college on the diamond.  Off the field, Lord said he will study sports business with a focus on potentially preparing for law school.
As for Thomas, he said he is excited to head to Albany, Georgia to play for Darton State College.  Thomas said it is a good opportunity for him at the next level.  “It is a good feeder school,” said Thomas.  “You go there and they will transfer you to Division 1 or Division 2, or the draft.  They are good at baseball.” Thomas said that on the field, he will play outfield, first base, and pitcher.  Off the field, Thomas said he wants to study to become a physical therapist.
