Big Events in Toccoa This Weekend

This weekend Toccoa has many events for everyone to attend.  First, this year’s “Jailhouse Rock” fundraiser to benefit the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter will be Saturday night at 6 p.m. at the Currahee Campus of North Georgia Technical College.  Humane Shelter board Secretary/Treasurer Angie Garland says this is the organization’s major fundraiser of the year. “This is our annual big event and the shelter needs so much of the public’s support. I know there are many things going on, but think of our animals. This is a one time event for us.”  Garland says all proceeds from the event benefit the shelter and is a fun evening for all. “We are going to have dancing, a wonderful meal, and a live and silent auction with a fun, secret auctioneer.”
Meanwhile, the Currahee Club is hosting its first Farmer and Artisan Day on Saturday from 4-7 P.M. at the Club located at the end of Oak Valley Road in Stephens County. Currahee Club Community Manager Anne Shurley tells us what to expect. “ The way we will set it up is the farmers and artisans will have their tables and tents set up and you will be able to go and stroll through and purchase fresh vegetables, fruits, eggs, honey, homemade jams and jellies, preserves, pickles, relish, gourmet salsa, along with lotions, candles, crochet items, bird houses, and personal flowers.”  Shurley says the Currahee Club is hoping to turn this into an annual event, “We are excited about people coming in and excited about having this market set up on the ground here of the new amenity center.”
Finally, a reminder that Toccoa Main Street will be showing the original “Ocean’s Eleven” movie Saturday at 3 P.M. at the Schaefer Center in Downtown Toccoa. Tickets are $3 for those 12 and over.
