About 150 people gathered this week for a community input meeting for the Toccoa-Stephens County Tomorrow initiative.  The privately funded effort is being carried out in conjunction with the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce and the Fanning Institute of the University of Georgia.  The goal of Toccoa-Stephens County Tomorrow is to create a community improvement plan for the area.

Job fair planned for Friday in Toccoa

With the latest state figures showing unemployment at ten percent in Stephens County, those looking for a job will have a chance to meet with potential employers this week.  The Georgia Department of Labor's Toccoa Career Center is hosting the 2012 Northeast Georgia Job Fair and Career Expo on Friday.  The fair will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at the Currahee Campus of North Georgia Technical College.

Tour of Plant Vogtle



Cam Parker, Barry Roberts, Mike Haynie and Wendi Bailey toured Plant Vogtle this week along with other community and business leaders from around the state. They were part of a special tour that went inside the secured areas of Units 1 and 2 as well as visited the construction site at Units 3 and 4.  The Southern Company's new nuclear development project is located near Waynesboro, Georgia.  
Southern nuclear already operates three nuclear plants: Hatch, Farley and Vogtle.  Vogtle was constructed with the option to expand. The company expects Unit 3 to begin operating in 2016 and Unit 4 in 2017, making the units the first new nuclear units built in the U.S. in the last three decades.
