Start of a New Year for the City of Toccoa

Several groups benefit from the City Commission at the start of 2012. The Commission jump started the year with a unanimous vote to fill spots on the Toccoa Planning Commission, the Downtown Development Authority and the city’s Historic Preservation Commission.

Evan Hellenga and Suzy Bellamy have been appointed to the Planning Commission to replace Terry Carter and Gail Fry whom resigned from the Planning Commission to take seats on the City Commission. Clay Fisher was appointed to fill Carter’s seat on the Downtown Development Authority. Michael O’Brien will replace Carter on the Historic Preservation Commission. Each appointee’s term will run through June 30, 2014.

The City Commission also reappointed Mike Jackson as City Manager, Fredda Wheeler as City Clerk, and the Rev. Paul Garrison, pastor of Hill Street Baptist Church, as City Chaplain in unanimous votes.

In other city news, Mayor David Austin appointed a number of city commissioners to boards on which the Commission is represented. Fry will serve on the Stephens County Board of Health and the Stephens County Joint Services Committee. Carter will serve on the Downtown Development Authority. Ron Seib will serve on the Joint Services Committee and the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission. Andy Pavliscsak will represent the city on the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce governing board. As Mayor, Austin will serve on the board of the Stephens County Development Authority and the Toccoa-Stephens County Airport Authority.
