Toccoa Police Officer David Shanks recently received the Northeast Traffic Enforcement Network Officer of the Year Award for 2013. The Northeast network consists of all law enforcement agencies from Stephens, Hall, White, Habersham, Rabun, Lumpkin, Dawson, Jackson, Franklin, and Hart counties. Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said that Officer Shanks is very deserving of this honor. "I am very proud of Officer Shanks being recognized by his peers for his long hours of hard work to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety," said Jarrell. "He believes in its mission, as well as the goals of our traffic network and keeping our streets safe." According to Jarrell, Officer Shanks handles all of the Toccoa Police Department's Governor's Office of Highway Safety programs, as well as coordinating the department's Child Safety Seat Program and other community policing efforts. Officer Shanks received the award at a recent gathering of four different traffic enforcement networks in Gainesville.
