Cam Parker, Barry Roberts, Mike Haynie and Wendi Bailey toured
Plant Vogtle this week along with other community and business leaders from
around the state. They were part of a special tour that went inside the secured
areas of Units 1 and 2 as well as visited the construction site at Units 3 and
4. The Southern Company's new nuclear development project is located
near Waynesboro, Georgia.
Southern nuclear already operates three nuclear plants: Hatch,
Farley and Vogtle. Vogtle was constructed with the option to expand. The
company expects Unit 3 to begin operating in 2016 and Unit 4 in 2017, making
the units the first new nuclear units built in the U.S. in the last three
decades.
